Engadget Logo Engadget Japanese version Sony complete wireless WF-1000XM4 (tentative) is rumored to be IPX4 waterproof with "Sony V1" chip
A rumor was heard earlier this month that Sony would announce new true wireless earphones WF-1000XM4 (provisional) as early as June. And with about a week left until June, new information received by German IT information site WinFuture includes detailed specifications.
According to the leak information, the XM4 will naturally inherit the active noise cancellation (ANC) function of the current WF-1000XM3, and will be equipped with a "Sony V1" chip to achieve more advanced processing. It is said that ANC performance and battery life will improve. In addition, since this chip supports Sony's proprietary high-quality codec LDAC, it is possible to transmit high-resolution sound quality even though it is a Bluetooth earphone (music playback equipment must also support LDAC).
WinFuture says the battery can last up to 8 hours with ANC on and up to 12 hours with it off. If you use the included charging case, you can use it without a power outlet for a total of 24 hours / 36 hours. In addition, since the built-in battery of this charging case can be charged wirelessly in accordance with the Qi standard, just place the case on the charging pad when you return home and charging is completed the next time you use it.
In the upcoming season, when using Bluetooth earphones outdoors, you should be careful about sudden rain. Of course, it is unlikely that you will get soaked, but some people may be sweating when commuting to work or school. This is where the XM3 lacked, but the XM4 is equipped with IPX4 waterproof performance. To put it simply, it has waterproofness equivalent to that of daily life, so even if it gets a little wet, it is unlikely to break down.
Waterproofing and sweatproofing are probably the only features that the XM3 lacked, and if they were to be added, the XM4 would be a hit again, including the demand for switching from the XM3. is.
WinFuture reports that the WF-1000XM4 is priced at €279.90 in Europe. This is about 37,500 yen in Japanese yen. Considering that the XM3 is currently selling for 27,500 yen in the Sony store, the price increase due to the Sony V1 chip and waterproof performance is likely to be a little bigger.
