Disney's video distribution service Disney + has announced the expansion of supported platforms.
With the expansion of the service on October 27, you will be able to watch Disney Plus on PlayStation 5/4, Xbox Series X | S, and Xbox One at the same time as supporting 4K and 5.1ch / Dolby Atmos.
The Disney + service began in Japan in June 2020. It was a start in the form of taking over Disney DELUXE, a service for Disney fans unique to Japan that had been developed in collaboration with DoCoMo from before.
While popular Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars content are available and the price is relatively low, the service content is limited compared to overseas and competitors, especially 4K resolution, 5.1ch surround, Dolby Atmos, etc. are not supported. That is a tough point.
You can still buy a movie that sells a high-quality BD version as a single item, but Disney +'s main content is Star Wars "The Mandalorian" and Marvel "Falcon & Winter Soldier" "Loki" "Wanda". Since "Vision" etc. is exclusively for distribution, you can not buy it even if you want to buy a disc, there is no premium quality plan, and Japanese residents can only watch with lower image quality and flat sound than originally.
However, from the service expansion and full launch from October 27, the price will increase by 200 yen a month, while new content such as overseas dramas of the "Star" brand will be added, 4K and 5.1ch / Atmos support, game consoles, etc. will be new. Improve for platform support.

The PlayStation 5 media remote control has a dedicated start button for Disney + from the beginning, but as mentioned above, Disney + in Japan is a different service with the same name and is not compatible with PS5, so you can use it even if you press it until now. I'm just told not. It will finally be available after October 27th.
