X-Pro3 that seems to have returned to the origin as a "photographer". What is the video function? | VIDEO SALON

TEXT ○ Ichiyanagi

The X-Pro3, a mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera released by Fujifilm at the end of November, has become a hot topic as a camera that has returned to the design and shooting style of a film camera. Please read here for impressions as a camera.

Now that most SLR cameras can shoot high-quality videos in 4K, digital SLR cameras must be evaluated from a video perspective, but in reality, the SLR cameras featured in video salons have been narrowed down considerably. It has been done. The reason is that the cameras used by video users are completely narrowed down. Especially if you are going to introduce it from now on. Now it's decided by Sony's α6600, α7III, Panasonic's GH5 and GH5S, S1H, Nikon's Z 6, and Fujifilm's X-T3. Doesn't it make sense for video users to use a camera that doesn't focus on video? It turns out that. For example, in Panasonic, the G9 Pro is a very good camera, but if it's a video main, the GH5 is fine, and I wouldn't regret choosing the S1H instead of the S1R.

That's why the FUJIFILM X-Pro3 is a camera for photography fans. It's the third generation of the X-Pro series, but taking that concept further, the LCD panel is closed by default, so it's possible to shoot while looking at the monitor, but it's not supposed (difficult to do). There is a color memory LCD window in the part that becomes a liquid crystal when opened, and the type of film simulation and ISO data are displayed there. An idea that digitally reproduces the act of cutting out a film box and packing it so that the type of film and ISO can be easily understood. So, the X-Pro3 is a camera that is completely unaware of video, but unlike the Nikon Df, it does not eliminate the video recording function and can shoot 4K movies (DCI and UHD / 30p) properly.

Since the engine is the same generation as the X-T3, it can potentially produce the same image quality, but there are some restrictions, so I would like to organize it here.

● Since HEVC (H.265) cannot be selected, it does not support 10-bit recording.

● Continuous recording time is 15 minutes for 4K and about 59 minutes for HD.

● There is no HDMI output terminal.

So, there is no reason to choose X-Pro3 instead of X-T3, but I personally find the X-Pro3 attractive as a camera, so what about the image quality of the video? I tried a little.

After all, the sensor and engine were the same as the X-T3, and the impression of FUJIFILM's detailed 4K movie remained the same. The film simulation that is a feature of FUJIFILM can be used with the same feeling for still images and movies, but the new addition to the X-Pro3 is the "Classic Negative." I thought it would be interesting to use it in a movie. By all means, I would like the X-T3 to be adopted in the farm upgrade.
