Holograms representing light and darkness generate new space and time: generate art series # 5 Kan Yuan Hyun Award
Sculptor Kanahara Hyun Award's works are carvings made of clay. After the forming process, FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) is used instead, the texture and appearance of modern people are pursued, the "a girl" series of anonymous women is made with gray painting, and the "Ectoplasm" series is produced by holographic painting. Kanahara will also include the "display environment" of the sculpture as part of the production.
In particular, the hologram "Ectoplasm" series, by overlapping holographic painting on the rough touch left on the clay, through the addition and subtraction of light, the expression of the work will change. The light around the work will only change, and the work itself will show a new face every time. This contrast of light makes the physical nature of the work and the "emptiness" of the work emerge in that space. This time we asked Kanahara about the "generated art".
Can you tell me Kanahara's identity as an artist?
In the modern impression, there are moments of indifference similar to the products, and there are many things related to industrial products in the materials of the works.
For example, FRP, which is often used in products such as small boats and bathtubs, is shaped by injecting the "shape" of a prototype made of clay. The clay will soon break or collapse in shape because you need to replace the mold with another material. The surface of the work is specially sprayed with special paint such as car body, which makes the image of the product more obvious.
Three-dimensional works using these techniques have seen some in the past, but I have never seen anything connected to the field of so-called academic concrete sculpture, which may be said to be my identity.
In addition, I have directly touched the three-dimensional objects with their bare hands since I was a child. In short, I like to confirm its shape with the touch. The technique of shaping (using clay sculpture) in my works may be an extension of his curiosity. I think the charm of shaping is that you do not need to use tools such as pens or keyboards, and the body movements of pressing or loading the plate will remain the same directly.
Is there anything that can be said to be the "source" of creative Vetty?
It is not so much a source of creativity as closer to motivation, but I think creation is a means to look at yourself objectively.
What are the things and feelings I usually see and feel? What on earth is your own existence? Confirm it through daily creative activities.
From there, the exhibition creates dialogue with others and observes itself from the opinions of third parties with different knowledge and attributes of art history. We chose a sculpture that can be appreciated from a 360-degree perspective, not from a single perspective, but from a more perspective.
