Before obtaining flight clearance from the FAA, Flightrex drones could only fly on established routes between their distribution centers and outdoor recreation areas. The autonomous drone can carry up to 3 kilograms of cargo and fly 5.6 kilometers.

Ward said the drone's ability to fly long distances would allow people in rural areas and the elderly with high health risks to get the supplies they need without having to travel to a store. The press release states
